In such systems the solar panels are connected through an inverter to the main electricity supply of the building. When the electricity needs of the building become greater than the power supplied by the panels the building takes power from the grid. In the long term when Maldivian utility companies, like other modern day utility companies, start metering and buying power from Renewable Energy sources,  excess power produced by such systems at any given time, can be metered and sold to the to the Utilities through the grid.
